Trading Spaces Recap Season 9 Episode 9 - You Can't Handle Chartreuse

In last night’s episode of Trading Spaces season 9, we met ShellieCarlik and their neighbors KimMatt. Kim and Matt need their dining room redone and Shellie and Carlik need their living room redone. Doug Wilson and Kahi Lee are the designers this week and Joanie Sprague and Brett Tutor are the carpenters this week.

Matt and Kim are going to be Team Kahi with Brett as their carpenter, which means that Shellie and Carlik are Team Doug with Joanie as their carpenter. It is time for the color-reveal and Team Kahi is doing a peacock blue and Team Doug is doing a dark charcoal grey. Shellie is a little worried about the dark grey, but Kim is loving the peacock blue for her friends living room. One of colors that Shellie was hoping to have for Kim’s room is chartreuse, it’s one of Shellie’s favorite colors. She is kind of bummed when it isn’t one of the color choices, but then we see that Kahi is planning on using chartreuse in Shellie’s house and Kim is elated because she knows it’s one of Shellie’s favorite colors.

While Shellie is working on reupholstering some dining room chairs, Kim and Matt are working on making some clocks for Shellie and Carlik’s room. Kahi finds a brass chandelier and tells Kim and Matt that they have to paint it and the options are white, dusted gold or they can keep it brass. Kim wants it to be white, but when it comes back, it’s dusted gold and she is not happy at all. Matt was the one that decided to paint it gold instead of painting it white like his wife wanted. Later, Kim reveals that she is just kidding and that Shellie is going to love it and is all for the gold. She was just trying to keep everyone on their toes.

Meanwhile, Team Doug is working on making a pattern art piece with scraps of fabric and glue on a canvas. I think it’s going to look great when it’s done and I can’t wait to see it in the room! After it is time for Shellie and Carlik to pick something from the Overstock.com tent for Matt and Kim’s room. They go with a great colored rug for the space.

It is time for homework! Team Doug needs to prime the cabinet and sand, prime and paint the walls where it hasn’t been done. Team Kahi needs to finish one of the clocks and then peel off the painters tape and clean up the trim. During their homework, Doug walks in and Kim can’t be any more excited that Doug is the designer for her house.

The next day, Team Kahi finished all the trim and almost finished the clock, Team Doug finished all their painting and priming the cabinet. Meanwhile, Brett and Matt are creating custom frames for some decorative scarves that they are going to be using for art. After Matt and Kim go over to the Overstock.com tent to pick out a piece for their room and they go with this white fuzzy chair that Kim thinks Shellie is going to love!

The decor is being brought in and places and the finishing touches are being done. It is time for the reveal! Here are the before and after of these two rooms!

Gallery: Shellie & Carlik’s Living Room

Gallery: Kim & Matt’s Dining Room

Team Kahi came in at $1786.10 by using a lot of thrift store items and making the clocks out of everyday items like BBQ skewers, spoons and paint sticks. There was no real furniture in this room before so most of that budget went to adding furniture to this space. They are absolutely blown away by their living room and absolutely love it!

Team Doug came in at $1949.23 and was very proud of all the self-made artwork and reusing some dining room chairs from the basement just by reupholstering them and adding some color. The table was remade because the one they had before was slanted and unusable. Kim and Matt are blown away by their room also. Kim is hysterical about it and is actually brought to tears over her new space.
