House Hunters Recap: High Ceilings for High Flyers

House Hunters Recap: High Ceilings for High Flyers

This House Hunters follows Lindsey and Rob’s quest to find a new home in Melbourne, FL. They have a bit of an odd-couple dynamic. She’s all about clean living, as well as being a germaphob and an environmentalist from Hawaii. He is from Alabama, so he doesn’t follow Lindsey’s clean living philosophy. The pair’s compatibility shows in their effortless acrobatics skills.

Lindsey and Rob dated for three years, married a year ago, and have a one-year old daughter named Kaia. Rob also has a 13-year old daughter named Kayla. He works in cyber security and Lindsey is a stay-at-home mother.; they used to live in Washington, but transitioned to Melbourne when Rob received a job promotion.

Melbourne is about an hour from Orlando. It is a lot more affordable than Washington, so they’re hoping that their $450,000 budget affords them a much bigger space than they could get in Washington.

Wish Lists

House Hunters Recap: High Ceilings for High Flyers-2

They both want a home with four to five bedrooms. To practice acrobatics, Lindsey and Rob also want a place with very high-ceilings.

His: Rob wants a large backyard with a pool. He prefers a ranch style home with only one level.

Hers: Lindsey likes Mediterranean style homes. She wants a ton of closet space, and wants non-toxic paint, non-toxic flooring, and a no new construction home. Lindsey would also like automatic faucets to avoid the germs it attracts.

House #1, $399,900

House Hunters Recap: High Ceilings for High Flyers-3

House #1 was built in 2004. It’s kind-of a Mediterranean style home with an archway. It has two floors, and some interesting wide-open spaces that can convert into an office, living room, or dining room area. The master bedroom has a his and her closet and a large, lovely en suite.

The outdoor area has a large enclosed pool with some backyard space. The place has a inconsistent color scheme, with different rooms being painted very different bright colors. House #1 needs a lot of renovations, like new flooring and some updates on the kitchen.

House #2, $449,000

House Hunters Recap: High Ceilings for High Flyers-4

This gorgeous 2-story home was built in 1991, and it is move-in ready. The home has four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms with ceramic tiles throughout the living room and kitchen.

The living room is smaller than Lindsey and Rob hoped, but the kitchen fits their needs (minus the ranch hood), and it has an open concept with nice granite and wood cabinets. The yard is also smaller than they want, but it has a pool. The bathroom and two closets are huge.

House #3 $375,900

House Hunters Recap: High Ceilings for High Flyers-5

This place is a new built home with a Mediterranean style. It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It also has that famous Florida ceramic floor tile. The bathrooms are small; the open kitchen is massive.

The backyard is large, but to Lindsey’s delight, it doesn’t have a pool. The closets and en suite in the master are a great size. However, as Lindsey addresses, the coloring makes the house look too sterile with no signs of life.

Decision Time: Lindsey and Rob clearly have issues with the new construction of House #3. House #2 seemed like the perfect fit. However, we knew it wouldn’t be that simple. House #1 needed more work than the other two, so it would be a gamble.

House Hunters Recap: High Ceilings for High Flyers-6

In the end…House #1 was picked.

Lindsey and Rob paid $383,000, instead of the asking price of $399,900. They have only been living in their new home for a couple of weeks, but they have already started making some changes, like new paint and flooring.
