Fixer Upper: Behind the Design Recap: Episode 12 – The Pahmiyer House

In last night’s episode of Fixer Upper: Behind the Design season 1, we got a look at the design process of the Pahmiyer’s house. Dale and Nancy bought an empty lot instead of one of the fixer upper’s they were shown. The lot they bought was just under a half acre, which gave them plenty of space to build a house and have a nice yard for their grandchildren to play in.

They really wanted something with a view and this house had an amazing one. One of the things that we didn’t see in the original episode was a sunset deck that Dale and Nancy could enjoy this amazing view from. Nancy really wanted their house to look like a European cottage which has a lot of light colors on the walls and the wood elements.

One of the things that Nancy and Dale really wanted a playroom for the kids. In this room, they put a huge built-in for books and games with a little reading nook. They also put a nice chalkboard wall in there, some raw tree truck stumps for seating and a nice table for coloring or homework.

There was an issue with the window they ordered for the dormer on the house. Nancy really wanted an oversized dormer, but the window they bought was way too small and shutters weren’t going to help. They ended up having to order a bigger window for it in order to make it look balanced.

They went with a green cabinet, with a marble countertop and a white concrete subway tile for the backsplash. There was a great antique wood piece that Jo wanted to put up in the kitchen, but it didn’t fit in the space. They also really wanted gas lanterns in the kitchen which look amazing in that space. She then had an idea that maybe they could use it as the mantle for the fireplace and when they brought it over, the piece fit perfectly on the fireplace.

When the Pahmiyer’s got to see their new house, they were speechless. When they got a look at the view, they noticed that in the distance they can see the lake. They loved the entire house, but they especially loved this balcony! Here are some of the design elements that were highlighted in this episode of Fixer Upper: Behind the Design!
