House Hunters Recap: Belle of the Ball in St. Louis

House Hunters Recap: Belle of the Ball in St. Louis

Married couple Tedd and Justin used to live in FL, but they’re taking their House Hunters adventure to St. Louis. The couple met on Miami Beach and have been married for six years. One day, they decided to  get in a car and drive to wherever the wind took them. They landed in St. Louis, and fell in love with the architecture and historic nature of the city.

Justin and Tedd have a budget of $800,000, which they hope allows them a move-in ready lavish home.

Wish Lists

His (Justin): Justin wants a Georgian or Victorian style home. He wants a large space to entertain, and teach about etiquette. It should have a big dining space with a grand entrance with stairs.

His (Tedd): Tedd wants a mid-century modern home. He wants an area for a television and an updated kitchen.

They both want a double vanity in the bathroom, at least one extra room for guests (Tedd’s mom), a 3-car garage, and a big yard for future dogs.

House #1, $749,500

House Hunters Recap: Belle of the Ball in St. Louis-1

This home has the historical look that Justin likes. It was built in 1914, has four bedrooms, and a grand staircase entrance. It includes a dining room that Justin can use for entertaining but it’s smaller than he wants.

They see a living room that could also be transformed into an entertainment area. There is a full and large kitchen for Tedd to cook. Justin jokes with one of the bathrooms right by the kitchen, he can shower then go straight into breakfast.

House #2,$619,000

House Hunters Recap: Belle of the Ball in St. Louis-2

Tedd happens to be busy at work during this house tour, so his mother steps in to record and offer advice. This place is a mid-century modern home that has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. It’s near a freeway but in a nice neighborhood. There is no major grand entrance but nice hardwood flooring.

Overall, compared to the beautiful first home, this is underwhelming. It does have the three-car garage, and a big master bedroom, bathroom, and backyard. The only major appealing feature of this place is the finished basement.

House #3, $685,000

House Hunters Recap: Belle of the Ball in St. Louis-3

This home has a huge grand staircase. It also has the historical look that Justin enjoys. It was built in 1907, and has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The kitchen is a little smaller than Tedd wants but it’s workable.

The biggest complaint from that pair is that this place has a lot of extra space, and they just don’t know if they have enough things to furnish it.

Decision Time: House #2 was immediately out Of the running. So it came down to House #1 and House #3. Personally, we loved House #1 a bit more because of the look and all the cool extra spaces that you can lounge around in–it felt more like a library or mansion.

House 3 was just missing something for us. Like Tedd alluded to, it just felt like a lot of extra space with no purpose. Whereas House #2, it was already furnished so the purpose of the spaces seemed clear.

As expected, they picked…House #3.

Justin and Tedd love their home, and are now just trying to figure out how to fill all their new space.
