House Hunters Recap: A Pool for the Kids in Clermont, FL

This House Hunters followed Denise and Jay as they searched for a new home for their family, and one that allowed them to grow their creative pursuits. The couple met 23 years ago, and have been married for 20 year. They have two children, a son named Wyatt who is 13, and a daughter named Aspen who is 11.

They want a new place to give their children a pool, and to have more space for entertaining—specifically a large basement to entertain guests.

Wish Lists

Their joint wish list includes a five bedroom home with three bathrooms, a room for a movie theater, a large kitchen, and a finished-large basement. It also needs to include large enough storage space for Denise’s cosplay outfits, and a place to setup a tiki bar. They want an open concept design.

His: Jay likes more ranch style homes. His list also has a large backyard on it.

Hers: Denise prefers cap cod style homes. She also wanted to find a fireplace–an impossible mission, according to Jay.

House #1, $499,000

House #1 doesn’t quite fit either of their prefered style of homes. It’s a two-story one, in a quiet neighborhood, with six bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. It doesn’t have a basement, but plenty of extra room for creating a home theater and a place to entertain guests. The kitchen is huge and also updated.

This home doesn’t have a fireplace, but it does have a large pool. All the rooms are pretty large, especially the master bedroom. There is also more than enough room for storage.

House #2, $399,900

This one is also in a quiet area. It’s a ranch style home with five bedrooms and three bathrooms. The home has an open concept but also has a formal dining room. It includes a porch that leads to a very nice view of the city. The bedrooms and storage space is a lot smaller than house #1.

The kitchen isn’t as large as Denise wants, but the home has two kitchens, one in the basement area and one upstairs. The pool is large but it leaves room for a backyard, which is good for their dog Lily.

House #3, $449,000

Denise finally finds a fireplace in this home. The kitchen is a lot smaller than Denise wants and it looks like it hasn’t been updated in awhile. This place also has an open concept, a pool, and a large basement–this time with a bar.

The bathrooms would need updating, and Denise and Jay don’t like that the city is very busy–they can hear a lot of traffic when standing on the deck. The pool is very basic.

Decision Time: This was a hard one to predict, because none of the homes seem to draw the couple in too much. We did think they might pick home #1 because Denise seemed so in love with all the storage space.

In the end, they picked…House #2.

They immediately begin renovations, so they haven’t moved in yet. They’re working on adding a tiki bar, movie room, turning the dining room into office space, and expanding the kitchen.

They also paid the asking price of $399,000. Denise and Jay love this place, and they plan to turn it into their forever home.
