Fixer Upper Recap: Season 5 Episode 6 – Flip House to Family Project

Fixer Upper Recap Season 5 Episode 6 - Flip House to Family Project

Last night on Fixer Upper season 5, Chip and Joanna decided that they wanted to flip a house and give it a fresh new look. Somewhere during the project, Joanna decided that she wanted her sister and brother-in-law to buy the house. They had recently decided they wanted to move back to the Waco area and are in the market for a home.

Chip brings Joanna to see some houses and the first one is a two bedroom, two bathroom and it’s 2000 square feet. The listing price is $110,000 and Chip thinks that with about $50,000 in renovations, they can ask $190,000 and make a profit. There are some updates that need to be done and Joanna doesn’t think that the $50,000 budget is going to be enough and they move on to the next house.

The second house they look at is three bedroom, one bath and 1400 square feet, but they are only asking $50,000. Chip thinks with a $50,000 renovation budget they can put it on the market for $145,000. They walk into the house and the first thing they see is a dead rat on the floor. One of the wall and fireplace is already halfway torn down and the floors are a mess. Chip was ready to walk out of the house at that point and they do.

The third house they go to see is a four bedroom, three bathroom, 2700 square feet and it is listed at $195,000 and Chip wants to put $100,000 and then list it for $350,000. The kitchen is going to take a big chunk of the budget, but the rest of the house seems to be a little more cosmetic. Chip is getting worried about the design because he thinks that it is going to cost more than $100,000 to update this house, but Joanna wants this house. He tells her that he was just joking about looking at another one and they decide this is going to be their flip house. Here is what it looked like before!

After they get the whole inside gutted and start putting up some of the iron for the kitchen wall that faces the front of the house and the iron sliders for the den, Joanna has an idea. She thinks she knows the perfect buyer for this house, her sister and her family. She shows her sister, Mikey the design for the house and she really seems to like the design. This house is going to have a vintage vibe, but some modern touches and Mikey tells Joanna she will talk to her husband, David, about possibly buying this house.

After Mikey talks to him, she brings him by and they take a look at it, but he isn’t so open minded about it at this point in the renovation. The game room idea has turned into a den with a homework area for the kids and an office area. It also had the entrance from the carport so there is an area for all the kids jackets and shoes. While they are putting in the five closets in this room, Joanna tells Chip that they have to add a sixth because Mikey and David are having another baby! Chip freaks out for them a little bit because they are adding a sixth child to their family, which is pretty ironic because Joanna and Chip announced they are also expecting their fifth child!

The exterior tuned into a bit of a challenge because the painted stone work on the outside of the house wasn’t even attached to the house. Chip and Joanna decided that they were going to replace it with brick. The rest of the project goes by pretty quickly and Joanna and the girls get started on the design part of the house. It is time for the reveal! Here is what the house looks like now!
