Fixer Upper Recap: Season 4 Episode 14 – Second Chance at a Country Home

Fixer Upper Recap Season 4 Episode 14 - Second Chance at a Country Home

In this episode of Fixer Upper season 4, Chip and Joanna Gaines help Jordan and Rachel find their dream country home. They had a home, but unfortunately, their contract fell through and someone else swooped in and bought it. They are looking for a three or four bedroom house, with a big kitchen and a large master bathroom. Their all in budget for this home is $435,000.

The first house they are looking at is being called the worm house and this is because it has this hideous worm hole pattern in the brick. It is also inside the house, which is pretty terrible looking. Joanna has a plan to get rid of all that brick and she also has a plan for the current kitchen. The kitchen isn’t as big as Rachel would like it to be, but there is a wall that can be removed. The land that this house is on is gorgeous though and it’s really speaking to Rachel and Jordan.

On their way to the second house, Rachel and Jordan talk about how ugly the house is, but how much they loved the land it was on. They don’t want the opportunity to disappear like it did with their last house. When they get to the second house, they tell Joanna and Chip that they are about to drop a bomb on them. They have decided that they are just going to go with the first house because they don’t want to lose the land that it’s on. Here is what the house looked like in all it’s worm hole glory!

The plans for this house are pretty simple. They will be opening up the kitchen into the dining and living areas and making it bigger. They will also be adding onto the master bed room to make the space bigger and make room for the master bathroom and a bigger closet. They will be re-doing the outside of the house as well, but there are a couple of options with the outside of the house. They can either paint it and cover the worm holes or they can stucco it and cover it that way.

Looks like the plan is to do the stucco after the design meeting with Jordan and Rachel. There is a little money left over in the budget and Joanna runs the idea of antique doors for the office or stone for the fireplace. Rachel likes the idea of the stucco on the fireplace so they go with the antique doors for the office.

During the course of the renovation, they add dormers to the house to give it some character and they put antique beams in the house too. The antique doors that Joanna ordered for the house are a little too tall for the hole that Chip cut out and a little too narrow, but Chip can work with that. With the doors and the new beams, the inside of the house looks amazing! Joanna has also decided that the island in the kitchen need to be like a table with shelves under it.

  1. I love watching the Fixer-Upper series to see the wonderful results in the projects. I feel like I would love to have Chip & Joanna for dinner.

We are in our late 70’s, and are building a new house in a channel community in Aransas Pass, TX. We have been struggling with the selection of the interior colors. I love the color scheme in this episode, and would greatly appreciate knowing the specific colors that were used in this lovely home.
