Fixer Upper: Behind the Design Recap: Season 1 Episode 6 – The Lee House

Fixer Upper Behind the Design Recap Season 1 Episode 6 - The Lee House

On the latest episode of Fixer Upper: Behind the Design season 1, Jo helps the Lee family turn their very outdated and plain house into a classic beauty. If you missed the original episode of Fixer Upper, you can find a full recap right here to get all caught up!

This episode started off with a look at Josh and Linn Lee meeting with Jo to find out what their style is and they both tend to like the classic and traditional style. The only difference is Linn likes the light and airy colors where Josh is more a bold color type of person. Jo decides that maybe a light wall color and bold cabinet colors. Linn would also really like some storage in the house because with two boys in the house, they need space for all their toys.

Demo day included opening up the walls. Jo calls Chip during demo and asks him if they can find space near the laundry room for a mudroom. They want to take down the wall going into the garage and eat into that space a little to add this in. This was the space that wasn’t featured in the original episode. You can find some pictures of this space in the gallery below!

Something that Jo wasn’t a huge fan of was the vent hood for the kitchen which looks a little too small for that kitchen. She really wants to have something a little wider. The mudroom was put together and it is coming along really nicely, but Gretchen, Jo’s design assistant thinks that it needs something a little more. Jo decides that maybe they add some cork board on one of the walls.

Jo is playing around with some diamond shape tiles for the backsplash and she is trying to come up with a nice pattern for the backsplash. I think that the pattern is really interesting and it really made the backsplash pop. The dining room table is round and so is the molding on the ceiling. Jo tells us that to break that up she is going to use a square rug under the dining room table.

While bringing the decor into the house, Jo fills us in that she really likes to have a subtle tie-in throughout any house she designs. In this case, the table in the dining room is round, the end tables in the living room are also round and happen to be marble like the countertops in the kitchen. The diamond tiles also tie into the cabinets doors which have a diamond design on them over the glass. After everything is staged and ready, it’s time to show the Lee’s their new house!
