Trading Spaces Recap: Season 9 Episode 3 – Feng Shui & Golden Nook

Trading Spaces Recap Season 9 Episode 3 - Feng Shui & Golden Nook

Last night on Trading Spaces season 9 we watched as a son and his parents traded spaces and redesigned each other’s master bedrooms. Mike and Laura, the son and daughter in law and Frank and Janice are really excited about this experience, but also really worried about what might happen to their bedrooms. The designers are Vern and Genevieve and their carpenters are Joanie and Brett who made their debut last week on Trading Spaces.

Frank and Janice have Genevieve as their designer and Brett as a carpenter. Mike and Laura have Vern as their designer and Joanie as their carpenter. Janice tells Genevieve that she would like this to be warmer and Zen for Mike and Laura. Mike and Laura talk to Vern about how Janice is really into Feng Shui and Vern is on board with this idea for their parents’ room.

It is time for the color-reveal on Team Genevieve and she wants to do a tempered grey on the walls to make it more relaxing and peaceful. Janice thinks this is a great idea because she is always doing things for everyone else and not herself and this is her space. Genevieve also has a metal scallop wallpaper which will really fit in well in this little nook in Mike and Laura’s room.

On Team Vern, the paint color is very neutral, but a little different than the beige that is currently on the walls. Vern shows them the palette for Frank and Janice’s room and he mentions getting a new bed for the space to really tie in the Feng Shui, but Mike tells Vern that the bed is new and he is pretty sure that his mother didn’t want the bed touched because it’s new. Vern says that they would tuck the current bed away and if she hates the new bed, they can always take it and put their bed back into the room. Vern thinks that they are going to love the bed.

Each team gets to painting and then Team Genevieve gets the gold wallpaper up in the nook and Team Vern does some silver leaf on the wall to showcase some pictures that Vern had made of Frank and Janice. After this is done, each of the designers speak to their carpenters about the pieces they need to be done for each room.

After this, we watch as Vern and Laura make yarn balls and Janice and Frank are heading to the Overstock.com tent to pick one item for Mike and Laura’s room. Janice found a great bench for their room, meanwhile, Vern has Laura and Mike changing hardware on the nightstands in the room. The upholstered bench that Joanie made is made, just needs to be upholstered.

It’s time for the homework assignments! Frank and Janice are painting the bed, putting the dressers together and at least one coat of paint on them. Mike and Laura have to finish the hardware changes, the silver leaf squares, and some touch-up painting. Mike and Laura do end up finishing the homework, but they ran out of silver leaf for one of the squares so they write a funny note to Frank in it.

Mike and Laura are picking something from the Overstock.com tent and they are able to find some really great baskets with some really earthy tones in it. They are going to go really well in this room. The new upholstered bed for Janice and Frank has arrived and the rest of the furniture as well. They start to put the furniture in and put up all the finishing touches. Meanwhile, Team Genevieve is running a little behind, but they are able to get the room finished as well! It is time for the big reveals!

Team Genevieve came in over budget by $29 so Paige took one of the pillows off the bench to bring it in under budget. Team Vern came in under budget spending $1980.79. Both couples loved their new bedrooms and there were some emotional moments! Janice also loved the new bed.
