House Hunters Recap: Quirky Florida Home

House Hunters Recap: Quirky Florida Home

On this House Hunters, newlyweds Dave and Heather are looking for a place in St. Petersburg, FL. The quirky couple met when Dave was working as a drummer for a belly dancer, and Heather was his stage manager. They didn’t start dating until three years later when they randomly saw each other at a restaurant.

They have been married for a month, and now looking to find a place for their four kids–one of which is human. Dave and Heather have three cats and a daughter. The daughter is Heather’s biological child and Dave’s step-daughter.

Wish Lists

They want a place that has a light and bright kitchen. They need a large garage that’s detached from the home, because Dave is a professional drummer and needs space to practice for hours. They want large closets. Dave and Heather need at least three bedrooms, one for guests, and two bathrooms. They also want an en suite bathroom.

Hers: Heather prefers the bungalow style home design. She also loves popcorn ceilings.

His: Dave wants something that has a mid-century modern design and high ceilings–he’s tall.

The budget ranges from $175,000 to $200,000. Heather is willing to go a little under $200,000, but Dave wants to keep it way under $175,000.

House #1, $195,000

House Hunters Recap: Quirky Florida Home-1

This place has three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Before stepping inside, Dave and Heather think that the place is way smaller than it actually is, and see their error once they enter it. It has the bungalow style that Heather likes. It also has her popcorn ceilings. This house has a deck, plenty of windows for natural lighting, and a large backyard.

It’s lacking the en suite bathroom and detachable garage. However, it does have plenty of closet space and a huge master bedroom. The biggest cosmetic issue is the kitchen. The rest of the home has high ceilings but the kitchen has lower ones. It also needs updating.

House #2, $205,000

House Hunters Recap: Quirky Florida Home-2

This is a modern style home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The first living room is a bit oddly designed, but the second one fits the ideal image of a living room, with a fireplace and all. It has an en suite bathroom, multiple closets, and a decent size master bedroom.

The kitchen has been newly remodeled, so they don’t have to work on it. The home also has Dave’s dream detached studio space.

House #3, $157,000

House Hunters Recap: Quirky Florida Home-3

For such a low price, this home has a lot of great features, especially ones on Dave and Heather’s wish lists. It’s a mid-century modern with a bungalow appeal. It has high ceilings, three bedrooms, and three bathrooms, and a detached space for Dave’s studio.

It doesn’t have much closet space. All the bathrooms are small, and the bedrooms aren’t that large either.

Decision Time: This one was a mystery. House #1 did seem to have the most potential for Dave and Heather, but Dave seemed against it, especially because he didn’t want to bother his daughter and wife with his drumming practice. He was also very set on spending under $175,000.

House Hunters Recap: Quirky Florida Home-4

However, in the end, Heather really loved that home, so they picked…House #1.

They paid the asking price of $195,000, and have begun small changes. Dave wants to save up for the big change of building a studio in their backyard.
