House Hunters Recap: New Digs in Dallas

House Hunters Recap: New Digs in Dallas

For this House Hunters adventure, we follow Dan and Crystal as they look for a place in Dallas to help them settle into their new city. The couple used to live in Sacramento, CA but moved for Dan’s job. He works for a manufacturing company and needed to move to a big city to have a large hub for flying. Crystal works as a project coordinator for a hospital. She works from home.

The couple meet in 2012. They were engaged a few years later, and now they’ve been married for a year and a half. Crystal and Dan currently live in a two bedroom and two bathroom apartment. They have been living there for eight months. They have a budget of $420,000.

Wish Lists

They want the new home to have at least three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Dan and Crystal need a kitchen with a large island. It also must have updated appliances. They would also like a walk-in closet and a pool.

Hers: Crystal wants two extra rooms: one for guests and one for her office. She prefers the contemporary style homes. Crystal also wants the place to be move-in ready with an open concept. Hardwood floors and a large kitchen are also major must-have wish list items for Crystal.

His: Dan wants a craftsman style home. He also wants a gas range stove and a two-car garage.

House #1, $399,000

House Hunters Recap: New Digs in Dallas-1This home is a contemporary four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms home. It has a lot of curb appeal, especially for a more modern home. It has 2900 sq ft. The outside of this home is very noisy because it’s right by a freeway. However, their realtor lets them know that the city approved the construction of a soundproof wall to block the noise. Inside the home there is hardwood flooring, exposed beams, and an open concept layout.

The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, including an electric stove, instead of the gas range that Dan wants. In the backyard there is a lovely pool and plenty of patio space. The inside includes a large game room, office space, and a walk-in closet located in the bathroom. The rooms are large with two potential master bedrooms. The big downfall to the bedrooms is all the carpet.

House #2, $423,000

House Hunters Recap: New Digs in Dallas-2

This home is located in East Dallas. It’s a ranch style home with 1500 sq ft, and two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Outside it has A two-car garage along with a pool. The interior design of this home is open concept. It has two living room areas, hardwood flooring, and a large kitchen. The kitchen has a gas range stove and a huge island.

The bedrooms are both on the smaller side, and the closet is very tiny.

House #3, #359,000

House Hunters Recap: New Digs in Dallas-3

This mid-century modern home is very unique. It has three bedrooms, and two and a half bathrooms. It has an open floor plan with hardwood flooring and exposed beams. The entire place has a rustic look with wood fixtures everywhere. The kitchen is large but not the color or look that Crystal likes. She doesn’t like the red island nor the wood cabinets. Dan suggests that they can just remodel the kitchen.

The home has plenty of natural lighting. The backyard on this home is very gorgeous with a pool, gazebo, waterfalls, and an outdoor kitchen. The home also has a large master suite but a small closet.

Decision Time: House #3 was very unique and cool but needed many renovations. House #2 looked all right but just wasn’t much of an upgrade from their current rental. House #1 had many of their wish list items, but it also had a major noise issue.

House Hunters Recap: New Digs in Dallas-4

In the end, Dan and Crystal picked…House #3.

They ended up getting in a bidding war, so they paid $381,000 instead of the initial $359,000 asking price.
