Fixer Upper Recap: Season 4 Episode 10 – Floating Fixer Upper

Fixer Upper Recap Season 4 Episode 10 - Floating Fixer Upper

On this episode of Fixer Upper season 4, Joanna and Chip are helping a longtime friend of theirs find his dream houseboat! Brett is looking for a houseboat for him and his children to live on. With an all in budget of $85,000, Chip and Joanna get to work trying to find him a couple of options. They are able to find three, one of them isn’t in the water and another isn’t big enough for him and his family.

They decide to get an inspection on the houseboat that isn’t in the water before Brett makes his decision. After having the inspection done, they find that there isn’t anything wrong with the houseboat and it will float, but it needs a lot of work. Brett purchased this houseboat for $27,000, which leaves them with about $58,000 to do all the renovations done. This is what the houseboat looked like before the renovations!

Before they get too much work done with the houseboat on land, they have it moved to the water to make sure that it will actually float. Being told that it will and actually seeing it float are two different things. They don’t want to sink too much money into if it doesn’t stay on top of the water. After a pretty nerve-wracking few minutes, they get the whole houseboat in the marina and it floats! That means they can get the rest of the work done to the inside of the houseboat.

One of the big things with this project is updating the kitchen and dining room to make it more modern. At first Joanna decided that the island wasn’t really necessary because she wanted to leave more space for the family, but while she was decorating, she changed her mind. She had a welder friend of hers design an island for the kitchen to help tie it all together.

Another part of this project is, making bunks in the kids room. It’s a decent space, but they wanted to put the built in bunks to try and leave more space for the kids to play instead of taking it all up with furniture. They also want to open up that bathroom a little bit and make it a little roomier and obviously the outside of the house has to be redone. It’s a pretty ugly boat, but when Joanna and Chip are done remodeling and redecorating this houseboat, it is pretty amazing! This is what it looks like after the renovation!
