Trading Spaces Recap: Season 9 Episode 5 – Stripes and a Stripper Pole

Trading Spaces Recap Season 9 Episode 5 - Stripes and a Stripper Pole

Last night on Trading Spaces season 9 we watched as Terri & Cornell and Crystal & Will trade spaces and work on each other’s basements! Terri wanted to have a basement that had a nice bar and lounge area for when they have friends over for drinks and really wanted to see some purple incorporated because she is a huge Prince fan. Meanwhile, Crystal wanted a nice relaxing area for her to have some fun with her girlfriends. We had a special guest designer last night on Trading Spaces when Clinton Kelly came by and joined Hildi in this episode! The carpenters from last night’s episode were Ty Pennington on Team Clinton and Joanie Sprague on Team Hildi!

Clinton worked with Terri & Cornell and Hildi worked with Crystal & Will. Clinton tells Terri & Cornell that he is going to implement four things into this design; Color, texture, pattern, and shine. He also mentions putting in a stripper pole and Terri thinks that this is a great idea. Crystal & Will are super excited that they are working with Hildi. Crystal tells Hildi that she would really like to see Prince incorporated into this room, but Will tells them that Cornell said no Prince.

When it came time for the color reveal, Clinton started by showing Terri & Cornell a white, a brown, light aqua and a teal and Terri isn’t so sure. Hildi shows Crystal & Will their colors and there is an orange, raspberry, olive and yellow and Crystal freaks out a little bit. During the entire design room, Crystal isn’t sure she likes where Hildi is going with her ideas. Meanwhile, Clinton has his hands full with Terri who is really sticking to her guns about the brown paint because she says that it’s one of Crystal’s “hateful colors.”

Clinton goes to Joanie about what he needs her to build. He needs an eight-foot bar and wants it to be painted white. Hildi has Crystal painting leaves on the wall of Terri’s basement and she is kind of worried but is trusting the process. Hildi then talks with Ty about what she needs from him. She needs a ping-pong table top for the pool table and a bar for Terri & Cornell’s room. She also has him building a wooden Corvette and painting it red to tie into the Prince theme. They are doing subtle hints of Prince so that Cornell can’t say there is too much of it.

Paige brings Crystal & Will to the Overstock.com tent to pick one item that Hildi will have to incorporate into the room. They pick out a couple of lamps for the space. Crystal then goes to help Hildi do some paper mache balls and Terri is helping Clinton with some art for the space downstairs. Meanwhile, Hildi has Will working on a valance for some matchstick blinds that Hildi got for their space. There aren’t any windows, they are going to put lights behind the blinds to make it look like there are.

It is time for their homework! Clinton has Terri & Cornell painting a white stripe and a brown stripe on the walls to break up all the teal and aqua and whitewashing the faux brick wall. Hildi has Cornell & Crystal nailing painted 1x2s to the walls and finishing the leaves on the walls. The next day, Terri & Cornell tells them that they didn’t paint the brown stripe because Terri didn’t like it at all. Clinton tells her that he isn’t actually missing the brown. Meanwhile, Crystal is painting the paper mache balls and finishing up their space. Paige comes to Clinton’s room with his disco ball and the stripper pole has been put up. Things are shaping up just in time for the big reveal!

Team Hildi came in under budget at $1997.74 and Terri & Cornell are having a hard time with the room, in fact, Terri is hating it. Cornell said that the only thing they like in the room is the bar. Terri tells us that all she asked for was some Prince stuff, he never drove a red Corvette and there isn’t anything in the room that is Prince related. She is really upset about this space.

Team Clinton came in under budget at $1968.45 and Will & Crystal are a little taken aback by this room. They love the bar, but they are not fans of the colors at all. Will likes the basement, but Crystal isn’t a huge fan. Paige tells them that she doesn’t remember a show ever when they had two negative reviews in a single show. They are all brought into Will & Crystal’s room and they might not like their rooms, but they are still friends in the end.
