House Hunters Recap: Old Vs New in Denver

Ruben and Jake have been together for three years. The majority of their friends ended up moving to Denver, so once they came to visit them, and then they feel in love with the city. They paid for a rental and have been in Denver ever since. Now they’re ready to upgrade to their first home.

Jake and Ruben have a budget of $575,000.

Wish Lists

The couple wants at least two to three bedrooms. They also want their new home to have nice views of Denver, and for the new place to be near downtown. Ruben and Jake also want a large backyard for their dog, Max.

Jake’s List: He wants a Denver square home with a fireplace.

Ruben’s List: He wants a condo that has a modern, industrial style. Ruben also wants a new build, so no fixer upper projects. He also wants a big kitchen for cooking.

House #1, $540,000

House Hunters Recap: Old Vs New in Denver-1

This home is located in the Highland district in Denver. It’s a modern condo with two bedrooms, and two and a half bathrooms; it totals 1600 sq ft. The space is missing a fireplace but it has a gas outlet, so one can be added later. The home has a small balcony that can’t fit much outdoor furniture on it.

The kitchen has been newly remodeled with stainless steel appliances. The only problem is that it’s small. The condo has multiple floors, including a loft level and space for a potential office. The home also has roof views, two sinks, and a laundry room. It doesn’t have hardwood floor nor does it have a yard.

House #2, $515,000

House Hunters Recap: Old Vs New in Denver-2

This bungalow historic home has 1200 sq ft, a fireplace, and hardwood flooring. It also has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen has modern appliances but it’s small. The two bathrooms are oddly placed, as both are positioned next to each other. The backyard is also a little smaller than Ruben and Jake expected. The home also comes with a wine cellar with a creepy entrance.

The home also has this cute a-shaped room that could be transformed into a work space, storage, or an additional guest room. It also needs some renovations.

House #3, $600,000

House Hunters Recap: Old Vs New in Denver-3

This is a Denver square home that was built in 1919. It has four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It also includes a fireplace, but it’s electric. The home has lots of wood, small rooms, and a garage. The kitchen has been updated but the design is very busy.

The backyard is large and includes a hot tub.

Decision Time: I couldn’t tell if this is one of those trick House Hunters where the choice is obvious, but they go with the most complicated home. So I was convinced they should pick House #1, but they were going to pick House #3.

House Hunters Recap: Old Vs New in Denver-4

Ruben and Jake pick…House #1.

They paid $555,000 for it to get the upgrade of a hot tub.
