House Hunters Recap: Moving Cross Country for Christmas

House Hunmters Recap: Moving Cross Country for Christmas House Hunters Chris and Ashley met in high school. They were just friends for awhile but eventually Chris kissed her in the cafeteria, and now they’ve been married for four years. They have a one year old son, Dallas, and they have one another child on the way, which they plan to announce to their family during the Christmas celebrations. Chris and Ashley are also raising Chris’s younger brother, Jeffrey, who Chris adopted.

Chris and Ashley have spent the last four years in Washington because he’s been deployed there by the military. Chris spent more Christmases away doing tours, but now he’s being stationed in Virgina, and no longer deployed. This new freedom allows him to spend Christmas at home with his family.

Ashley and Chris previously lived in base housing, but now they can finally buy their own home. Their budget ranges from $300,000 to $350,000.

Wish Lists

Ashley and Chris both want a four bedroom home.

His: Chris prefers the colonial style homes. He also want a designated home office.

Hers: Ashley prefers craftsman style homes. She also wants a large kitchen with dark countertops and a spa bathroom.

House #1, $340,000

House Hunters Recap: Moving Cross Country for Christmas-1This 2600 sq ft colonial style home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a dedicated office space. It also has far too much wallpaper. The home also has weird paint color choices. The kitchen meets Ashley and Chris’s standards: it’s big, updated, has a large pantry, and brown cabinets that are a little too light, according to Ashley.

The place has plenty of areas to rest and relax, like the living room and a breakfast area. It has a huge master bedroom with a spa-like bathroom.

House #2, $330,000

House Hunters Recap: Moving Cross Country for Christmas-2

This 2300 sq ft colonial style home has three bathrooms and six bedrooms. The living room areas are very small, especially compared to House #1, but the master bedroom has a long, spacious design. The home comes with a small, compact kitchen and very small bathrooms.

The bedroom makes up for some of the tight space with a nice open deck and backyard.

House #3, $335,000

House Hunters Recap: Moving Cross Country for Christmas-3This is a raised rancher house with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and plenty of open space. The master bedroom is right off the kitchen, which Chris and Ashley don’t like. It has an unattractive deck and not much yard. The home comes with a large finished basement as well as a nice luxury bathroom.

Decision Time: This House Hunters also experimented with the format. Ashley and Chris didn’t get to leave their third home before making a decision. The show also didn’t take a commercial break before showing their discussion. Then the episode had a long prologue, which showed Chris, Ashley, and their family in their new home and the announcement of baby #2. Since this is part of the Home for the Holidays specials, we actually enjoyed the long prologue instead of just showing a brief look at the new home. It helped complete the picture of their home buying journey.

House Hunters Recap: Moving Cross Country for Christmas-4

The actual decision seemed a bit obvious, and Ashley and Chris chose…House #1.They end up buying it for $337,000 instead of $340,000
