House Hunters Recap: Making it in Mid-Missouri

House Hunters Recap: Making it in Mid-Missouri

House Hunters Madison and Kyle met while working together, but delayed their romance for a year. Now, they’ve been together for three and married for a month. These Missouri natives want to find the dream home in Jefferson or Colombia, they just need to agree on which city.

Kyle wants to move to Jefferson because it’s close to his family, and where he used to live before moving to Colombia. Madison loves Colombia because she’s more of a city gal. It’s also close to her job.

They have a $250,000 budget.

Wish Lists:

The biggest difference on their lists is the locations. They both want a large master bedroom,  an open floor plan, large walk-in closet, and an updated kitchen.

Hers: Madison wants a foursquare home. Along with that style, she wants the bedrooms to be located upstairs.

His: He wants a cape cod style home with an inddustrial sink and large backyard. He also wants a wood burning fireplace, not a gas one.

House #1, $189,900

House Hunters Recap: Making it in Mid-Missouri-1

This home is located in Jefferson. It’s 40 minutes from Madison’s job, and doesn’t quite match either of their preferred design style. It has the three bedrooms and two bathrooms that they want. It’s also two-stories. It has a gas fireplace, which Kyle doesn’t like.

It also has half carpet, half hardwood floor. It has Madison’s large walk-in closet, but the master bedroom connects to the kitchen. The basement is fully finished.

House #2, $238,500

House Hunters Recap: Making it in Mid-Missouri-2

This home has a foursquare feel with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. This place has lots of extra space with natural lighting. The kitchen is open and the fireplace is wood, so two big pluses for this home. However, the backyard is too close to the neighbors–according to Kyle.

Most of the rooms need new paint. Th entire master bedroom is large but has a closet and bathroom that is too small. The home is located in Colombia.

House #3, $239,900

House Hunters Recap: Making it in Mid-Missouri-3

To find a compromise in location, their real estate agent takes them to see a place in Ashland, MO. It’s located in-between Colombia and Jefferson.  This home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms.  It’s more of a cap cod style. It has high ceilings and a completely open floor plan.

The kitchen is newly remodeled. The bedrooms in this place also need some new paint, and the walk-in closet is smaller than Madison hoped. The basement is fully remodeled and beautiful.

Decision Time:  House #1 seemed like the best choice at first. Yes, it was located far from Madison’s job, but it had almost everything they wanted. Then we saw House #3. This one was the obvious best choice, it had everything they wanted, price wise it was fine, and it was a location that worked for both and neither.

House Hunters Recap: Making it in Mid-Missouri-4

Yup, they picked…House #3.

Madison and Kyle ended up only paying $230,000 for it, and are still moving in, plus repainting and changing some elements of their new place.
