House Hunters Recap: Kansas City Crib

House Hunters Recap: Kansas City Crib

Alex and Jared have been together for four years and married for two years. They currently live in a small two bedroom, two bathroom apartment in Kansas City. The pair wants to upgrade their home and their lives; they’re in the adoption process and have three dogs. They need House Hunters help to find the right place for their growing family and lives.

Their budget ranges from $450,000 to $500,000.

Wish Lists

Jared and Alex want a home in a suburb near Kansas City. They want their new home to have an open concept with a fenced yard, finished basement, and a media room.

Alex’s List: Alex wants a farmhouse style home. It must have four bedrooms and a grand entryway. He would also like a Butler’s pantry.

Jared’s List: Jared wants a mid-century modern home with three bedrooms and a bonus room. He also wants the home to have between 2200 and 2400 sq ft.

House #1, $499,500

House Hunters Recap: Kansas City Crib-1

This home only has about 1600 sq ft, but includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s located in the Overland Park area, a 20 minute drive from Kansas City. This home has a mid-century modern look with no real curb appeal or wow factor on the exterior. The house has one quirky outside feature: a green door.

The home is huge and very modern and open. It has hardwood floors and a completely updated kitchen. The kitchen includes an electric oven, which Alex doesn’t like. It’s also missing his Butler’s panty. The home has very small bedrooms and yard. The backyard isn’t fenced but has a nice patio for entertaining.

House #2, $379,900

House Hunters Recap: Kansas City Crib-2

This home has about 3000 sq ft. It has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The entrance is very grand with spiral stairs, design features on the railing, and a huge light fixture. It has very high ceilings and large windows for lots of natural lighting. It has a decent size master bedroom and a glamorous master bathroom.

The home also includes a half-finished basement. To turn it into their entertainment/media room space, they would need to have some renovations done on this home.

House #3, $379,750

House Hunters Recap: Kansas City Crib-3

This home is also in the Overland Park area. It’s about 3400 sq ft. It has four bedrooms, and three and a half bathrooms. It’s located on a busy street, so the car traffic is a distraction. The home has a ranch style with an open concept. The floors a little more rustic as well as some of the ceiling fixtures. It has a modern wood burning fireplace.

The kitchen has a large island and plenty of storage space, but still no Butler’s pantry. It has a fenced yard and a patio. The master bedroom has his and his closets and a very tiny bathroom. The basement is very large with plenty of space for the media room.

Decision Time: House #3 inside seemed ideal but the outdoor space had major issues, like the traffic. House #2 had a lot of the features that Jared and Alex love but still needed some work. House #1 just lacked some of the space they needed.

House Hunters Recap: Kansas City Crib-4

Alex and Jared picked…House #2.

House #2 was a model home so they ended up paying $409,000 instead of $379,900 for the additional features. They have Alex’s Butler pantry added and a fenced backyard. They also started working on the nursery and on creating their media room.
