House Hunters Recap: Atlanta West End Dream House

House Hunters: Atlanta West End Dream House

House Hunters Lauren and Greg just move to Atlanta for her job, and now they need to get out of their parents’ basement and into a real place. Lauren was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She eventually ended up in Los Angeles, CA, where she met Greg. Greg met Lauren on a visit, and two years later they were married. Lauren has a daughter from a previous relationship named Mia. Lauren, Greg, and Mia need to find a new home so they can really start to create roots in Atlanta.

Currently, Lauren and Greg have been living in the basement of her father’s home so that they could save up for their new place. They have saved $300,000 to put towards their home.

Wish Lists

They both want a place in west end Atlanta. Moving to this area gives Lauren and Greg the community atmosphere that first attracted them to the city. The couple wants a place with a lot of natural lighting. Lauren and Greg also want a light and bright kitchen with a gas stove. They also need a separate area for Greg to create his music.

Hers: Lauren wants a craftsman or bungalow style home.

His: Greg prefers the modern style homes.

House #1, $300,000

House Hunters: Atlanta West End Dream House-1

This home is an eye-catcher with its big red exterior. It definitely has curb appeal, but not the curb appeal that Greg wants. It has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Lauren and Greg love the beams, but aren’t fans of the overall dark motify of the home, especially in the kitchen.

Greg adores everything about the kitchen, except the electric stove. The home does have windows but they’re not big enough to really brighten up the home. All the bathrooms in their place are luxurious. The best thing about this house is how it blends classic and modern with the traditional exterior and a completely modern interior.

House #2, $280,000

House Hunters: Atlanta West End Dream House-2

This home also has a lot of curb appeal with the blue paint on the frame and the yellow on the door. It’s located a little further than the west end area. The commuter trains are the first thing that capture Lauren and Greg’s eyes, and not in a good way. This place has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It is an open concept with very white and grey color scheme. It has all the kitchen fixtures that Greg loves but with an electric stove.

The barn doors open up to the bathroom with a big shower that has seating to make it look more like a spa. The rooms have big windows that really bring in big natural lighting. There is a small living room and a big extra room, so Lauren suggests that if they pick this home, they turn the upstairs bedroom into the living room, and the original living room into Greg’s music room.

House #3, $265,000

House Hunters: Atlanta West End Dream House-3

Yet another home with amazing curb appeal. This home has a completely brick exterior and unique color door. It’s also not in the west end but not too far from it. The home used to be a Catholic church but a house flipper converted it into a home. It’s very open concept. The first room that Lauren and Greg visit is too open to really function as a bedroom–it’s missing a door. The centerpiece of the living room is this stone fireplace. It helps add a historic element.

This home has a beautiful deck that’s accessible through the master bedroom. The backyard is a little too big for Greg. The master bathroom is missing a door and has a heat vent in the middle of the show. As you can tell, this place has a lot of character. This was the only home to actually have a gas stove.

Decision Time: House #1 looked very unique and fun with the exterior, but the interior was kind of lackluster. House #2 just had a very weird color scheme that made it a bit boring. House #3 was the most unique and had character, but seemed a little lacking on functionality.

House Hunters: Atlanta West End Dream House-4

In the end, Greg and Lauren picked…House #3.

They bought it for $255,500 instead of the $265,000 asking price.
