Lisa and Billie also have two dogs, Otis and Lucy, and a cat named Dudley.

Wish Lists

Their current home is 2800 sq ft, so they want something much smaller. However, how small various between the women.

Billie’s List: Billie wants a bungalow style home that ranges in size between 1800 and 2000 sq ft. She wants a closed floor plan with only one story. Billie wants to avoid stairs for herself and her older dogs. It has to have a wood burning fireplace, a big backyard, and only a few renovation projects.

Lisa’s List: Lisa wants an open floor plan and a ranch style home. She’s okay with having renovation projects. Lisa also wants a white kitchen, large closets, and for the home to be in the Lansdowne Merrick area of Lexington.

House #1, $394,900

House Hunters Recap: A New Chapter in Kentucky-1This ranch style home is located on a busy street. You can see and hear traffic the minute they arrive. It has four bedrooms, and two and a half bathrooms. It’s newly remodeled with a sort-of open concept, but not completely. The kitchen is large and bright with a white and gray color scheme. This color scheme is seen throughout the home. In this place, you can expect a lot of natural lighting.

The master bedroom, bathroom and closet are all on the smaller side. One of the major draws to this room is the large yard, but it  needs to be fenced off from the dogs. This home also has a nice finished basement. The biggest issue with this place is it is not located in Lisa’s ideal area.

House #2, $349,900

House Hunters Recap: A New Chapter in Kentucky-2This bungalow style home is just what Billie wants. It’s only 1700 sq ft, has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and has a wood burning fireplace. Lisa thinks that the home is too small. She’s worried that Billie is having an emotional reaction to it, and not a practical one. The backyard in this place is lackluster. It has plenty of defined spaces but they’re all small.

A major drawback is the small rooms, steep stairs, and an unfinished basement. The home does have an additional downstairs area that could become an entertainment space. It has a fenced yard but the kitchen is very small. Billie also loves the crystal doorknob, which gives the place a little extra character.

House #3, $249,900

House Hunters Recap: A New Chapter in Kentucky-3This split level home is also located in the Lansdowne Merrick area. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms with defined spaces. It has plenty of natural lighting and an updated kitchen. Billie doesn’t like the tile fireplace or the converted garage. The backyard provides plenty of outdoor space for their dogs.

The room sizes are okay but the bathrooms are very small. It has less stairs, so that makes it easier for Billie and the pets. This place would need a lot of renovations.

Decision Time: House #1 seemed like the right choice, but it wasn’t located in Lisa’s dream area. House #2 was a no from the word go. Lisa’s face said it all. They were definitely not buying this place. House #3 just seemed to need too many renovations.

House Hunters Recap: A New Chapter in Kentucky-4

They chose…House #3.

Lisa and Billie purchased the house for the $249,900 asking price. They’ve began renovations, but won’t move-in until everything is complete. One of the things that they want to remodel is the master bedroom. They plan to combine two of the rooms to create a huge master. Lisa and Billie invited friends and family to help them demo the place.
