Last night on Good Bones season 3, Mina and Karen take on a couple of townhomes, one of them has maroon carpets, peach walls, and an active bird’s nest. After getting started with their new layout after demolition, all work is brought to a standstill after finding a surprise up in the attic.
Mina purchased this home for $20,000 and each unit is 1200 square feet. This used to be a duplex, but are now townhomes because each side of the house can be sold to different owners. They are working on one unit today. This is what the house looked like before they got started!

Part of the project involves somehow separating the front porch with some lattice or something to give each side some privacy. They also want to split off the backyard as well. The living room has a terrible maroon carpet that has to be ripped up, the wall between the living room and dining room will be coming down. They really want to open it up.
The kitchen needs to be updated and the existing laundry room is going to be a half bath. Upstairs, they are converting the middle bedroom into a master bathroom and reconfiguring the full bathroom upstairs to put the laundry into it. The other bedroom has bird’s nests in it and Mina freaks out a bit.
It’s demo day and the team comes in to get demolition started. One of the rooms has what they call super lap walls, which is super strong shiplap walls. They are trying to pry the walls down, but they have to be careful not to break through the wall on the other side because they don’t have permits for that side yet.
While putting the siding on the house, they found something tucked away where the attic is. It’s an old gun, Karen calls a friend of hers who is a police officer. He is able to run the serial number on it to see if it was stolen or anything. It wasn’t and it’s so rusted that it will never fire anymore so Karen is told she can use it as decoration. She plans on cleaning it up and using it as a paperweight.
They put up a privacy wall on the front porch to separate the houses. Things inside are coming along well enough for Mina and Karen to show the house to a potential buyer. Their buyers are Alexa and Tyler, Alexa’s sister is married to Mina’s brother so she is part of the family and Tyler is her boyfriend. They are looking for their first place together. They get the tour and they love it! They are so excited to be buying this property.
The cabinets for the kitchen have come in and the new floors in the living room are being installed. Karen has a great idea about a bird feeder. With all the birds in the area, hence the bird’s nests in the bedroom, Karen thinks that putting a bird feeder in one of the windows that will allow birds to fly in from the outside and be seen on the inside.
The countertops were delayed. They were brought in and didn’t fit. They were brought back to the shop to be filed down a bit so they fit properly but then had to be remade. That means the backsplash, sink, and stuff can’t be put in yet. They come in the next day and the kitchen is finished just in time for the furniture and decor. After some finishing touches, it’s time to reveal the townhouse to Alexa and Tyler!

If you look at the picture of the office/guest room, you will see on the right side of the desk, the gun they found all cleaned up and put in a glass case for decoration. They were able to give Alexa and Tyler a really great backyard with an amazing patio. Mina was all in at $170,000 for this side of the house. She sold this townhouse to Tyler and Alexa for $200,000 and after closing costs they made $20,000 on this townhouse.
