Fixer Upper Recap: Season 4 Episode 7 – Traditional Goes Ultra Modern

On this episode of Fixer Upper season 4, Joanna and Chip help a young couple, Brittany and Dean Wixsom, find their dream home in Texas. The couple is originally from Colorado and have a eight month old son, Wake. They have a very modern style and hope to find something in Waco on a couple of acres of land, with room for a home office, a fireplace and at least three or four bedrooms and an open floor plan.

Joanna and Chip find it hard to find something that has that number of bedrooms and the acreage that they want, but they are able to find a few options within their $450,000 budget. The first house they look at is actually a two-fer, they get two residences on almost four acres of land. It’s got three bedrooms, two baths and is $350,000, which only leaves $100,000 to renovate the entire house. This property is going to be a little hard to beat in Dean’s mind, but they go on to look at the other house Chip and Joanna have picked out for them to see.

The second house they go to look at is a little bit bigger in size and has a fourth bedroom, it’s on five acres of land and they are only asking for $230,000 which leaves $220,000 for renovations. When they get into the house, Dean and Brittany seem to like it and after going through all the design ideas for this house, it’s time for them to pick a house. They have decided to go with this house because of the land and the fact that there is more money to make the updates the house needed in order to meet their style needs. I think the first house wouldn’t have been able to do that on their budget. Here is what their house looked like before Chip and Joanna renovated!

Right off the bat, there is a problem with the inspection and the fireplace that the Wixsom’s really loved. It isn’t up to code and has started to deteriorate and it’s effecting the foundation of the house. Chip tells them that the engineer said it has to be demolished and rebuilt and it would cost $15,000 to fix. He suggests that they go back to the seller and try and renegotiate the price of the house to try and cut some of the cost. They are able to get $7,000 knocked off the price of the house to help take away from that hit to their budget.

Joanna goes to the Wixsom’s with her design plan and they love it and I can’t wait to see the finished product! They plan on adding an office to the house off the living room, they are going to add a dining room off the kitchen. There new master bedroom doesn’t have a master bathroom and that is going to be an addition to their house also. The rest of the demo goes off without anymore big problems. Joanna is finding some furniture and decor for the Wixsom’s new home, including a new dresser for their master bedroom.

As I watched this house transform, I couldn’t believe it was the same house. It went from a very plain ranch styled home to this ultra modern home is pretty impressive to me. I didn’t thin they were going to be able to pull it off. Are you ready to see it? Well of course you are! Here it is!
