Fixer Upper Recap: Season 4 Episode 15 – Rustic Italian Dream Home

Fixer Upper Recap Season 4 Episode 15 - Rustic Italian Dream Home

On this episode of Fixer Upper season 4, Joanna and Chip help Ramil and Jenny find their dream house in Waco. They are from California, but are looking to move closer to Ramil’s mother. They both really like the rustic Italian style homes after visiting Italy a few times and they are looking for a home with at least four bedrooms, an open concept, a playroom for their four children and a big backyard. Their all in budget is $425,000.

The first house they looked at is called the Checker House, that’s because of the checkered tiles inside the living area. It is a four bedroom, three bath house and it’s got a really nice sized yard. The asking price on this house is $299,000 and it doesn’t need a ton of work, just some updates and they would have to open up the kitchen.

The second house they looked at is called the Hot Sauce House, thanks to a hideous border on the kitchen walls. This house is a four bedroom, three bathroom house and it’s sitting on six acres of land. The inside of the house needs to be reworked a little bit and with the listing price at $319,000, they have enough room in the budget to get it done.

The third house they looked at is called the Candy Cabin House, I’m just going to say that the inside of the house looks like a cotton candy machine exploded inside it. This house would need to be completely redone, the kitchen would have to be relocated and the outside of the house would also have to be updated. The good thing about that is, this house is listed at only $150,000, which leaves them $275,000 to renovate this house.

Jenny and Ramil choose to go with the Hot Sauce House and they were able to get it for $315,000. They asked if Chip could add a half bath on the first floor for them and they were okay with the added cost. Before we get too far into that, lets take a look at the house before the renovation started!

This house needed quite a bit of work and the half bath that they wanted to have added ended up running them a little more than they were hoping. The original estimate on the bathroom was $10,000, but that was before Chip discovered that the size of the piping in that area of the house was too small to support a bathroom. They would either have to put in new pipes, which would cost them an additional $10,000 or they could put in something called a grinder pump which would allow them to use the existing pipes, but that would still cost an additional $3000. Jenny decides that the half bath is important enough to spend the extra money to get the grinder pump.

The dining room was the former garage and it is a pretty good sized room, Jenny didn’t like that the ceilings are low so Chip and Joanna put it in the budget to vault them. Chip and Joanna decided that the best thing they can do is open up the wall between that room and the kitchen and make it one big living space with the living room attached. They would also be putting a play room in. The front living room, would become a small den. This job goes off without a hitch after the half bathroom was figured out and the end product is amazing! Are you ready to see it? Of course you are!

  1. These two along with Chip & Joanna claimed to be “Italian” on nationwide TV? But I believe they are really Filipino. I lived in Italy for 3 1/2 years and I never saw one Italian that looked liked either of them. I even have a nephew who is half Italian & half Filipino and he looks MORE Italian than these two. Why would they deny their true ethnicity? People were wondering, are they ashamed of their ethnicity? It kinda urks me. Cuz I am proud to be a Filipino American. l learned about our culture and tradition. I am most proud of our hospitality and how we treat and welcome people into our home. These two may have been to Italy during their honeymoon but it doesn’t make them Italian. And to claim on nationwide TV that they are Italian instead of their real ethnicity is embarrassing.

    • I don’t recall them ever claiming to be Italian, I remember them saying that they had visited Italy on several occasions and loved the rustic Italian styled decor. I might have to re-watch the episode.
